In 2014, after a challenging project had failed, I found myself stressed and without enough petrol to return to Johannesburg. I went to the Lebowakgomo Taxi Rank to catch a taxi home.

As I arrived, there was only one seat left in a Johannesburg taxi. The queue marshal, Mr. Phasha, shouted:

“One Johannesburg! One Joburg! Walala Wasala!”

I quickly got into the taxi and took the last available seat in the front. Sitting beside me was a young woman named Pontsho.

As I settled in, Mr. Phasha smiled and whispered:

“Modimu o go ragetše makoti, Morena.”
(God has prepared a bride for you, my brother.)

I laughed and thought nothing of it. Little did I know that God was already writing our story.

What began as a simple taxi ride grew into friendship, love, and a beautiful journey together. Through life’s successes and challenges, we supported one another, grew together, and built a relationship founded on faith, trust, and respect.

Today, as we prepare to say “I do,” we look back with gratitude at how God brought us together in the most unexpected way. What seemed like an ordinary day at a taxi rank became the beginning of a lifetime of love.

From a taxi ride in Lebowakgomo in 2014 to forever in 2026 — our love story is proof that God’s timing is perfect.
